13. I have now been in front of an Army Medical Board and was P8 due to Enemy Action and will be discharged as of the 1st November 1997. It has taken me nearly six years to get this far.

14. Prior to going to the Gulf War I had a very bright Career in the Army, I had just returned from 5 month in Australia on an exchange trip, looked good for promotion to Sgt, was a fit and motivated individual. To see me now you would not believe it, I have lost everything that was important to me, Career, Health, confidence, instructional abilities, Even lost my wife, as it affected me so much.

15. Today my health is still deteriorating, my back is so painful at times even just washing the pots or pushing a Hoover around. Trying to sleep is another major problem for me I'm mostly up till early hours in the morning, and when I do get up I have a major head ache until I take my tablets. If I try to exert myself I have dizzy spells and have to sit down. Sometimes ill get sore lumps on my head and ear aches, the depression is the worst I feel totally alien and angry finding it hard to relax and take it easy.

16. Sometimes I do not know what to do for the best, my life seems to have been turned upside down and inside out. I "feel like a Junkie with all the tablets I have to take". I was/am a soldier, I was prepared to die for what the Government wanted me and my mates to fight for. No questions asked. But somebody lied to us somewhere along the road, be it when the NAIAD's were set off or the drugs/injections, smoke! I do not know but I'm sure somebody does. Maybe in another 35 years we will find out. "Just hope I'm here to see it".
