GULF WAR 1991 STATEMENT 1. I was a Section commander acting Platoon Sgt with 187 (Tancred) Company, Who departed UK for the Gulf on the 31st of December 1990 Arriving at Aljubial Airport on the 1st of January 1991. 2. 187 Company was initially deployed to Baldric lines Aljubial. This was until the arrival of Unit Vehicles and Stores, which arrived Via Ship. 3. My section and I were first deployed to the Bulk Fuel Installation (BFI) with the Royal Army Ordinance Corps. Our main role here was to provide a light perimeter defence for the BFI. And to prepare both Diesel and Petrol Jerry Cans for Transportation to Forward Units, this was done by Checking, Refilling, sorting and storing them. In the 3 days we were here my section of 8 men filled over 5000 Jerry Cans. 4. After this task we returned to Baldric lines and then Deployed to the Ammunition supply point (ASP2), as part of our Platoon "3 Platoon". Our main role here was again a defensive one, in that we provided a Quick Reaction Force, Manned Observation Posts, and Mobile Patrols. We also assisted the AT`s (Ammunition Technicians) in the preparation of 155 Artillery rounds and other tasks related to ammunitions. 5. Within the first few days of being at ASP2 we were issued with NAPS Tablets which we began taking straight away this was prior to the ground war starting and after the last NBC Alarm Test. We also returned to Baldric line to be given Injections they were Anthrax, Plague, and something else, not sure what it was called. These were given one after the other. 6. On return to ASP2 we continued with our duties, it was during my sections deployment on the Ops that my NAIAD Sentry Alarm went off. We immediately went to Romeo 3, which is wearing full IPE and Respirator, and then informed our Unit HQ. We were in Romeo 3 for Approx. 30 to 45mins. I was then told via the radio to carry out a Sniff Test and if safe to unmask. Which my fire team and I did. I was then told that the Naiad's had been affected, by aircraft dumping fuel prior to landing. (Hmm I wonder). 7. We also did other tasks at ASP2, sometimes burning Human Defecation but this was not often as the US Marines with us did this. 8. After a time of taking Nap's I reported sick to the Unit Medical Senior NCO, who was an American Marine Sgt. He did a full medical on me and found my Blood pressure was ----------------> |
